We had visited many Indian ruins in the west but none as complete or interesting as these. The Alcove Trail at Bandelier National Monument provides many opportunities to explore the petroglyphs, niches, and ruins. Climbing ladders, rock stairs and trails built thousands of years ago submerged us into the history of the people who used to live here. Friends joined us this week and we were able to reconnect with their family. We hiked Catawba Falls near Black Mountain, NC and showed them all about what we are doing in North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains. It was a fantastic couple of days.

Summer cools fast in the mountains and we wanted to get one more swimming day in before the cooler temps. Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Waterfall in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Pisgah Highway would provide a great end to summer.

Best of Pigeon Forge and Smoky Mountains

We have spent many weeks in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains and we just love the area!!! After spending a full month we wanted to express our thanks to our favorite business and recommend our favorite hikes. This is one of our longer videos but there is so much to do in the area we try to give you a head start on some of the great dining, entertainment in Pigeon Forge and hiking in the Smoky Mountains.

Our last week of a month stay in Pigeon Forge area of Tennessee. We used every minute possible. We stopped at the Island in Pigeon Forge, SevierAir Trampoline Park and hiked our longest toughness hike yet. We had a great week!!!

The Bear Days of Summer

Our third week of the Smoky Mountains brought some new adventures and we revisited previous failures. We discuss two great hikes Rhododendron and Chimney Tops. The kids swim in a rapid and have a blast. Aurora talks about keeping in touch with friends on the road and her letter writing clubs. We play around with our Gopro8 and have some fun in the pool. Finally there is a bear in the campground, and that provided some midday entertainment.

The Great Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, TN will be our resting place for the next couple of weeks. On this week of Aurora Around America we discuss hiking the mountains, Alpine Hideaway Campground, a birthday, and the best way to find things to do in a new place.

Hiking, Horses & Hot Springs, Oh My!!

On week 4 of Aurora Around America we discuss Hiking, Horses and Hot Springs. On our way east from TX to TN we stopped in Hot Springs, AR. We had never been, it was a good distance to break up the 1000 mile drive and there is a Chicago connection. We hoped it wasn't shut down because of COVID; It was more than we liked but less than it could have been. We had a birthday to celebrate, we were anxious to hike the mountains and happy to be back on the road and traveling again.

While in New Orleans we went for a walk in the swamp. The video makes it look like it was all fun and games but the girls were really timid, especially our youngest. The walking path we chose through the Jean Lafitte National Preserve was about 4 miles long. We had no close calls but the first mile was a slow tiptoe down the path. The path was soft at points and would give pretty significantly when we walked over it but it was safe. It took a couple of miles but the girls did finally become comfortable walking the trail past the snakes and alligators.
