Lake George is a beautiful town and rich with history. We enjoyed walking around the lake and visiting Fort William Henry. At the visitor's center we heard about hiking Prospect Mountain. So we had some lunch and headed over.
As our quest to see amazing sites in America continued, we stopped at the Erie Canal. An amazing feat, dug mostly by the Irish with the incentive of whiskey, in 1820's and completed in 1825. This canal allowed goods to be transported through the Great Lakes out to the Atlantic Ocean or vice versa. It created an economic boom for New York, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin. And was the inspiration of for "Low Bridge, Everybody Down".
“Where to next?” has become one of my favorite questions and it all started in Dayton, Ohio. We originally planned on heading to West Virginia and south from there. But, as you may recall, there was some crazy weather and a barrage of hurricanes were hitting the south and southeastern parts of the country.
We stayed here so we could visit Niagara Falls, it is about 20 - 30 mins away. This was a clean well run campground. Sites are a good size, ours was a little bigger because it was the first on the line. We have a 34' travel trailer that we parked without a problem. This campground is right on Lake Ontario and on a clear day can see Canada. There is a lot of open space and had a relaxed atmosphere.
This was a great little place we found on a brochure. The Niagara Power Company generates the largest amount of hydroelectric power in the country. The damn has a visitors center and museum. It is very well done. I wasn't expecting much and was very surprised. I was so busy playing with the exhibits I didn't take many pictures. Oh and it is FREE, yep!
Travel Trailer (TT) living is new to us so there is a bit of a learning curve: Is that sound normal? Is the air conditioner working right? Did you spill water in the kitchen? Who spilled water by the sink? Why is there water under the sink?! UHGH!!
I highly recommend this museum. It is an amazing collection of American History in flight and ingenuity. There are a bunch of interactive exhibits for kids and amazing stories for the adults. The exhibits are grouped together by historical eras making it easy to understand.
Prior to heading out we had heard Verizon had the best network throughout the country. We were ATT customers for the last 20 years but if we were really going to make this work long term I needed to be absolutely sure I would be able to connect. Hello, Verizon Unlimited Plan.
