Mammoth Cave, KY Part Two of Two

Being successful riding a horse we thought we would try something a little more difficult. We headed over to Hidden River Cave.

We signed up for a package available at Jellystone which included a tour of the cave, one zip line, one repel, and entrance to the museum.

The cave tour was good, filled with the history of the town and how the cave was misused. How the cave was able to naturally filter out the garbage. The cave was used to generate hydroelectric power and provide water to homes and businesses. Now on to the fun stuff.

Nina led us off like a pro. Happy to step off the edge.

Aurora was a little light but the instructor helped her get started.

The kids handled the repel a whole lot better than I did. Even Aurora who had to be pulled down because she didn't weight enough to release the braking system of the harness figured out how to give some slack and had fun bouncing her way down. Hopefully some early memories they won't forget.

Our last cave was Mammoth Cave itself. Unfortunatley because too many people complained that "the flash" hurts my eyes we didn't get any pictures of the cave itself. Too dark.

This was an interesting pic. Because of the heat of KY and the coolness of the cave it creates a layer of fog. It is 90+ deg. above the fog line and 60 deg below. Very cool.
