Just keep moving...

Heading south from Massachusetts usually means having to go through New York City which is not one of Garrett nor my favorite drives so we opted to go through the Pocono Mountains. After being close to a city, we were all longing for another hike and we thought we would find it in the Poconos. It was becoming increasingly difficult find open campgrounds but Timothy Lake South was open and had space.

We stopped at BushKill Falls but didn't hike, they wanted $50 to walk the grounds. We stopped at BushKill Falls but didn't hike, they wanted $50 to walk the grounds.

The area in which we stayed reminded us a lot of the Great Smoky Mountains with dark, winding roads. We were only there for three nights and only able to do one hike. It was an easy boardwalk hike with two beautiful waterfalls: Silver Thread Falls and Dingman Falls. One hike was better than nothing and these falls didn’t disappoint. The hike wasn’t as spectacular as in Acadia but it was pleasant, nonetheless.

From the Poconos we opted to stop in Washington DC. It was rainy and cool most of the three days we were there so we spent most of our time in the Museums. Cherry Hill Campground was close enough to take public transportation but the fares were pretty high. Luckily, we were able to ParkWhiz a garage spot for less than four round trip tickets on the Metro. We often used ParkWhiz at home when we wanted to do something in downtown Chicago and were just too lazy to take the El. Whenever the price to park was cheaper than the train fare for four people, we always drove. Very rarely are we disappointed with the spots ParkWhiz offers. The spots are usually in covered and attended garages. The only thing to watch out for are whether or not they can accommodate large vehicles.

DC is another place where we know we need to return. This trip, we only made two of the Smithsonian Museums and the National Archives. That isn’t even a drop in the bucket of all the things there are to do and see here. God willing, we will be back, again and again.

Most of our day in DC was spent walking in the rain. Most of our day in DC was spent walking in the rain.
