Bar Island, Hike #6
The Bar Island Hike is available 90 mins. before to 90 mins. after low tide. It may be driven or walked and provides an interesting opportunity to explore a sandbar and to look on Bar Harbor from an island in the Desert Narrows. Bar Harbor posts many warning and pictures of vehicles that people have parked and left too long. The tide is unforgiving.
This hike gave us another opportunity to explore tide pools and muck around. You can read our first tide pool exploration here. There isn't much to Bar Island and hike wise it isn't all that exciting in comparison to the others on Desert Island. The wife and kids wore a pair of waterproof boots allowing them to walk around in the mud. We spent a couple of hours exploring and finished with a sunset.
